About the artist

Jazz Aline is an artist from Treaty 1, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Navigating artistic mediums like a river system, she recreates her dreams, experiences, stories, and views as they ought to be: deep like wild grass roots, and big like prairie skies.

She records her surroundings like a historian, remembering and reimagining the faces of our landscapes for present, past, and future revision. A gift of remembering through artistic language and renditions of her folklore for the 21st century.

About visual art

Dialogue is the most beautiful of themes, and so appropriate for theatre and the arts. For me, dialogue is language, reciprocal communication. You can learn so much to dialogue with people, it’s required for community development.

All the plays and events presented at TCM for the 2023-2024 season will take you out of your comfort zone into conversations and dialogues that are important to our cultures and communities. I loved creating a piece of art for this theme, it’s something I’m very passionate about. Like TCM, I too want my art to create dialogue between people. I want it to unite us. Yes, we have differences between people, but we have more in common, and dialogue facilitates understanding.

When we understand each other as human beings, we’re one step closer to reconciling our shared humanity. Whether it’s sharing a loss, a sadness, or our hopes and joys.
The two people pictured are androgynous, because dialogue is for everyone. The voices that flow out of their mouths transform into braided rivers, which represent the sharing of information that never ends. The flowers that bloom from their bodies, bursting in unison represent their shared humanity and growth.
