It’s winter, somewhere along a snow-covered road in rural Manitoba. The storm is thick. Visibility is near zero. On their way to a divisional slam poetry competition, a school bus has to stop. Three young people find themselves trapped, waiting out the storm: Amina, recently arrived from a French-speaking African country, determined not to lose her voice. Louis, a Métis teen searching for identity and Jen, born here but raised in the shadow of her refugee family’s silence.
Alongside them, the driver, Ousmane, a permanent resident who’s seen a storm or two.
As the hours pass, snow falling steady and silent, questions begin to rise: do we hold on to and what do we let melt away? Can they endure the cold, outlast the boredom — and unlock the secrets of living in harmony?
